Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is your turnaround time?
I'll give you an estimated delivery date once I receive all the necessary information from you. I can generally deliver a resume draft in three to five business days.
After that, the editing phase is usually quite quick (often next-day from when you send your comments).
2) What materials do I need to provide?
Please send a copy of the most recent / current resume you have. I’ll also send you a backgrounder sheet to fill out. Notably it will ask for sample job postings, or a description of the job you’re seeking.
Note: It’s your responsibility to provide truthful, accurate information. I will present the information you give me clearly and impactfully, but I don’t fact-check or verify your job history.
3) Do I really have to fill out the backgrounder sheet?
Gold in, gold out. What I mean by that is, the more good information you give me, the better your resume will be. Not only does filling out the backgrounder (especially question #7) provide more strong content for your resume, going through the process also helps prepare you for the questions you’ll be asked in job interviews.
If you absolutely don’t want to fill out the sheet, you can let me know, but you need to understand that without additional information, all I can do is reorganize / rewrite your existing resume content.
4) Can I just tell you the information over the phone? Can we have a call (or two, or three) during the writing and editing process?
You can rely on me to answer your emailed questions thoroughly and in a timely manner. I’ll also ask you any questions if I find I need clarification. This is part of the service I offer.
If you find you want telephone / meeting consulting time, we can book that for an additional fee.
5) What is your refund policy?
I will always communicate with you as we both work toward a document that accurately and impactfully reflects your career achievements and gives you confidence to move forward.
Once I begin work on your documents, I am unable to provide a refund as I have booked time for you in my schedule, turned other clients away, and begun planning and research to make your resume as impactful as it can be.
This is also why I require payment before I begin work on your documents.
6) Do you have a job guarantee or “landed job” rate?
No, and I believe you should be suspicious of anybody who provides this. There are many factors contributing to your job search success. Some are in your control – your preparation, research, presentation, etc. Some are out of your control – market factors, other candidates, and internal policies and prejudices at the companies where you apply.
7) Do cover letters really matter?
Yes. Cover letters do many things resumes can’t – they show a bit more personality, and they let you explain things like particular interests, or gaps in employment, that you can’t address on a resume. In a job search, sometimes it’s the very smallest thing that can make the difference between you and a similar candidate – why not use every opportunity available?
8) When I get a new job, can I contact you and get you to add it to my resume?
Once you’ve had the opportunity to review your resume, and provide feedback, I’ll make any edits you indicate and answer any questions you have, and the resume will be considered final.
After the resume is finalized, I’ll be happy to update it for you in the future – a great deal of my business comes from repeat clients and I love working with previous customers. You can contact me for a quote on your resume update.
